Tutorial to Paint Flag Over Face.

Painting Flag on Face during sport events, national occasions are commonly seen. If you wanna try the same look, you can do it very well in photoshop. Here are the steps..

  • Open the image preferably cut out from the background because here i will be placing it over other file.

  • Press Ctrl+J or right click on layer and select duplicate layer.

  • Press Ctrl+U and lower the saturation to zero.

  • Press Ctrl+L and move the input level cursor to adjust shadow and lighting according to your image or as given below.

  • Create new group by pressing ctrl+G and drag the layer1 copy inside it. Name the group layer as flag by double clicking on it.

  • Add layer mask to the group layer. (Make sure you give add mask to the group folder flag and not to the individual layer.)

  • Press Ctrl+I to invert the layer mask.(Now you will see the mask changed its color from white to black).

  • Select brush tool, set opacity to 80%, foreground color to white and paint on the face carefully.

  • The more accurate and neat you paint with brush, the better will be the output. Now your face will be like this.

  • Now open the flag you want to place it. Here i have chosen German Flag. After opening, Press Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+C.

  • Now come back to the face you were working on and Press Ctrl+V. This will paste the flag over the face.

  • Resize the pasted flag to fit in the face like below.

  • Use the brush tool and paint on those areas which are not covered by selecting that particular color.

  • Now change the layer blending mode to multiply.Name this layer as layer multiply.

  • Now use  Press ctrl+J or right click and duplicate the layer. Name the new duplicated layer as layer overlay. Select the smudge tool from tool box and smudge the hard lines on face to give it natural painted effect.

  • Bring the layer overlay below layer multiply by dragging. Adjust the opacity level of layer multiply to 90% and layer overlay to 35%. This may vary for your image accordingly.

  • Now with the layer multiply selected create new layer and rename it as highlights. Now select brush tool , brush opacity=10% , foreground color to white and brush on those areas of face where more lighting is needed.

  • Change the layer blending mode of highlights layer to overlay.

  • Finally select all the layers by holding ctrl and select and move the entire face image to the already opened flag image and place it.
  • Now Select the unedited layer(first layer, here layer1),go to blending options, and adjust the inner glow as shown below or as you want it to be.

  • There you have the final image..!
