Creating animated image in photoshop (GIF images)

Here iam sharing a basic animation of a bouncing ball. Its very simple and can be learned in minutes.

  • Open the image to be animated. Here I have selected a ball.

  • Remove the lock of the background by dragging into the trash.

  • Next step is to separate the ball from its background. For that select quick selection tool from tool box and select the ball. Now right click and choose select inverse and press delete.

  • Now you can see the ball on a transparent background as shown here.

  • Now create new layer by clicking on the new layer button below.

  • Now select the foreground color to black and fill it using paint bucket tool.

  • Now bring down the new layer below the other layer just by dragging it down.

  • Go to window->Animation. Then you will get the timeline bar below which is required for performing animation.

  • Select the ball using move tool and transform its size by pressing Alt+Shift+Z and resizing with mouse.

  • Select the first frame in the timeline and drag the ball to the left corner.

  • Now create new frame  by clicking the icon at the timeline corner or as shown below.

  • Select the second frame and move the ball to the centre as shown.

  • Now select both the frames together by pressing ctrl and also both the layers. Click on tweens animation frame.

  • Set the number of frames to add to 10 and select ok.

  • You can see that there new 10 frames created in between.

  • Select the last frame and click on duplicate selected frame button below.

  • Select the new duplicated frame(that is the last frame) and move the ball to the right corner.

  • Once again select the last two frames together and also the two layers and assign the frames to add as 10 by clicking on tween animation frame.

  • Again you will get 10 frames inserted in between. Now if you want to set time delay to increase or decrease the movement speed, just click on sec drop down at the bottom of frame. You can assign the time delay as per your need for each frame.

  • Go to File->Save for Web & Devices.

  • Choose file type as GIF and looping option forever(as your requirement) and save it.

  • Now open the created the gif image in any browser.
